There used to be a banana warehouse on the quayside near to this street. The bananas were unloaded from railway trucks straight into the warehouse. I believe the warehouse was owned by Fyffes. As for the packing of sweet jars, the only sweet factory I remember was the NEBO works in the Green Dragon Yard. One of the entrances into the yard was from Finkle Street and the other entrance was from the quayside.
This view is looking up Castlegate towards The Empire, which is around the corner to the left. If you view image S343, which looks down Castlegate to the river, you can see the “KX Lamps” sign on the last building on the left.
Possibly Castle street, looking up from the quayside – the large building at the top of the bank behind the (Bedford?) van, this could be the rear of the High Street terrace, possibly the Continental Cafe or one of the buildings close by.

I think there used to be a banana warehouse and a warehouse that filled the sweet jars along that stretch of road.
The bulding on the right halfway up was used to prepare tripe and had a smell to avoid on a warm summer day
The building with the kx sign housed william thursbys Electical Wholesaler
