  1. Anon 21/7/00 Vis a vis the 1954 Grangefield Grammar Sixth Form, how about the change from the garb of 1912 to 1954. Dark three piece suits and stiff collars for them all (admittedly aged 22-23 instead of 18) I admit I still can’t get used to not wearing a tie!

  2. This photograph was taken in Stockton in 1912 or 1913. I got the photo from a cousin – the daughter of Harry Ransome who is seen in the picture. My uncle, Ambrose Dee, had identified most of the young men – these identifications I add for your benefit ….Back Row, L to R. Lance Winn, “Killed in the First World War” (his name appears on the war memorial at Grangefield Grammar School) – M. Corolten (spelling ?) – Harry Ransome, married Katharine Dee – Ambrose Dee, brother of Katharine – Capt. Gus Hansell, “Killed in the First World War” (his name is also on the Grangefield Grammar School war memorial) – Philip Cohen, “Headmaster”, “Killed by a bus in London”. – extreme right, unknown …… Front Row, L to R Michael McGough – “Spoiled priest Headmaster” (?) – Llew McGregor, “Draper” (in Stockton) – Austin Dee, brother of Ambrose, “died December 1914” (probably TB) – Bert Weir, “Engineer” – Capt. Sam Story ,MC and Bar, 6th DLI, “Schoolmaster”. It seems likely that most were ex-pupils of Stockton Secondary School. I know that Ambrose Dee would have been 22 or 23 years old at that time. They may have been comtemporaries at school. A very formal group of young men, a modern group of comparable age would look vastly different. Interesting to see what stiff collars and dark 3-piece suits can do.

    • Hi Paul, I think Llew Macgregor was my great uncle. Would there be any chance of you sending an electronic copy of this to me? It would be amazing to have if I could.
