I was in 2nd Norton Scouts in 38-39 we met at the school on the Green where I took my Scout Promise, be a new boy I was in the Peewits Patrol. I am now 86 and forgoton all the names.
We did our bit collecting aluminium pans and newspapers on our bogey for the war effort. Our leader was killed in the war, but George the Assistant Scoutmaster survived. Keith Dixon met him in London after the war.

In addition to the above, I believe my Uncle Jos may have been exactly the right age to be in this photo and am intrigued to know if it is he seated on the right. My father’s family were known for their ‘stickie-out’ ears!
I know my uncle Joshua (young Jos) Sheraton was a King’s Scout and started off at Billingham. Does anyone know if he (or his brother Gordon or indeed my father, Ken) attended Norton Scouts after they moved to the new houses on Cottersloe Road in Norton?
Surely Bob will be able to tell us who the other members are and the history of the ‘Erics Own’ name. I believe Bill Summers the Scout Master lived in Stanley Street next to the shop. His wife was a teacher at the Frederick Nattras during and straight after WW11. They moved upto Countisbury Road when that estate was first built.
The lad on the right holding the flag could be our Bob Harbron, a regular on this site. The flag which has ‘Eric’s Own’ will give us a clue to the age of the photo as he was Eric Robinson a Scout Master but died of Menangitus around about this time.
I think this photo must have been taken later than 1940, possibly 42 or 43. Scoutmaster Bill Summers must have followed after my time. I don”t know the flag “Eric”s own”. I wonder if the lad on the right hand side of the shield could be ? Rowlands.
This is 1st Norton Scouts who had their HQ in a field on Darlington Lane opposite the top gates of Frederick Nattrass School. This would have been taken approx 1940.The Scout Master is Bill Summers. Can anyone identify the others?

Indeed it is Bob Harbron on the right hand side of the flag, and his twin brother is stood on the left!
