As a young child I use to go for a walk along Butts Lane to Egglescliffe with my family on a summers day/ We knew the Stephens family who had a stall at Stockton Fish Market. I had my engagement party in 1968 at The Pot and Glass Pub there.
To-day Wed 18th , I took a party around this very beautiful village. Brilliant flowers red mellow brickwork and white window frames and doors framed the 1600 1700 and 1800 houses and cottages, with their red clay pantile roof and changing roof-lines a-gleam in the brilliant sunshine. The Dutch or Flemish style of many of the cottages, their garrets clean and white could have come from the paintings of the “Dutch Old-Masters” all set in a frame of the immaculate village green and spring green trees.
