Stonehenge football was a good game, almost the same as British Buldogs, which is now banned. To this day we play the same sort of games but try to discourage the rough side, so as to avoid injury John
We used to play a game called stonhenge football in the scout hut opposite Frederick Nattrass school, the game consisted of two sides, with a big piece of rock chalk and the aim of the game was to put a cross in the opposing sides end.It was the roughest game iv”e ever played. I”d be interested to know if the scouts still played it or would it be too rough in today”s compensation culture.
John, I think Norman Uckle was the scout master,Ginger Armstrong was a patrol leader,he was killed in the RAF during the war,I cant remember any more names of the older members.I remember when we were at Ripon camp Frank Allan. Tom Devey and myself went on strike because we were given all the menial tasks to do because we were the youngest. We climbed up on top of a haystack and wouldn”t come down until they promised to share the tasks out equally.
