Edmund Cecil Wren (1848-1907) was my great-grandfather. The business he founded continued until 1971 when the premises were demolished to re-align the then A19 at Yarm Bridge.

During the war a few of us kids would knock on the door of the big house in Bishopton Rd & ask Mrs Wren if we could collect the conkers out of the garden & she came out & helped us. I believe the house is still there but the Mitre was built on the grounds. It’s a long time since I visited Stockton so perhaps that lovely home is no longer there!
