  1. I was under the impression that the open air Cafe on top of the old Lavatories was in the spot where the column was situated. I must have loat my bearings or my senses, put it down to old age… or a Senior moment we like to cover up our mistakes with.

  2. What ever happened to the Doric Column. Does anyone know the History of the column and its whereabouts today. I have a painting done by Tony Hutchinson the local artist showing the Column as depicted in this photo, Tony who can be found on market days plying his skills in the Flea Market in the Green Dragon Yard. Tony is an artist of exceptional ability and his work on local scenes is magnificent. I usually manage to get a couple of his paintings every time I visit Stockton. He gave me one for my birthday last visit, Tony is a very generous person and a delight to talk to on his paintings and old school days which we both shared at Newham Grange. Tony was also a first class chef as his main occupation, he prepared meals and Banquets for Royalty and many film stars and other famous people before retiring and taking up one of his hobbies, painting, and he is now one of the best local artist on Teesside. His pictures are well worth a visit on market days and Tony would be delighted to see any old friends or any new friends at his stall. He actually continues to paint sitting at his stall and produces beatutiful paintings in no time at all. I love watching him work, a true artist.
