This photograph ia a view of 14 West Avenue in Billingham. This house was one of 73 built in a garden village by NESCO for their employees at the North Tees A Power Station. Most of the houses were semi-detached with gardens and the roads were lined with trees and hedges. Provision was made for electric heating and cooking in all the houses. The living room had an open fireplace, with back-boiler, for hot water and there was an additional fireplace in the bedroom above. Courtesy of Peter Rigg.
Guilty on both counts, Garth. The Picture Stockton team have my contact details if you want to get in touch.
Are you by any chance the Peter Rigg who attended Grangefield Grammar School in the 1960’s and who was a member of he school railway society?
This picture shows my mother, Kathleen Ritchie, and her younger sister Doreen outside their home. My grandfather, Billie Ritchie, was a fitter driver at A station when it opened and continued employment at North Tees until he retired in about 1950. He lived in the house in West Avenue from 1921 to 1928 when he moved to a new house at Imperial Avenue in Norton.
