My sister, Dorothy Walton(nee Haslock), deceased, also worked in the Supply Department at Ki-ora during the second war. In the 50’s the building was also partially used as a church and Sunday School as a temporary home while St Chads Church was being built. Reverend Trevor Beason was the energetic minister in that developmental period.
This photo was taken after my Father’s second spell of war service from 1939-1942. Joe Kidd is standing immediately behind the lady in the white jumper. He is white haired and was 49 years old. I can assure you there was no “welcome home for the boys” except from his wife and child. Life had moved on at ICI since his mobilization on 3rd September 1939. Juniors had become seniors and made sure they kept their seniority despite ICI policy of jobs being kept for ICI servicemen on their return. Joe was stationed at HAA battery at Grangetown Sunderland for his wartime service protecting Teesside, Sunderland and Newcastle. As you will see they had decorated the office for Christmas.
