I always thought it was the shop a few doors down from the corner of Dovecote St. which had a ship decoration at first floor level. Cant remember the name now but something in the dim and distant past makes me think it was Liptons or something like that.
This was year I was born. I love looking at old pictures of Stockton and the market. It’s a shame they have spoilt it.
A third single storey building on the High Street was Wolseys near the old T.S.B Bank.

You are right, it is the building with the ship facade, Ian. It was called Althams in my day.
There are two ‘single story’ buildings on Stockton High Street, The Shambles, obvious…… any ideas on the other ????
