Photograph taken at Thirlwells c1930s

This picture was taken at Thirwells, do they have archives? My husbands grandfather George William Foster Moore is third in from the left back row. The person next to him on the left is J Walker and the person to his right is Mr Kelly wearing glasses anybody have any info on the rest of the people? Does anybody know who the people are in this picture?

  2. Hello I was delighted to find this photograph, as my gt grandfather is in Back Row, 2nd from right. He is George Alexander Stewart Mackenzie b1876 in Norton. He worked as a Machinist Planer according to 1939 Census. I noticed that George William Foster Moore, in the 1939 Census, is a Fitter General-Engineering. Living in Oxford Road, he is close to Stockton Forge Works, so wondering if they worked there? Not sure if it become Head Wrightson and employed 4500?
Hope this throws you further clues

  3. Hi, Sorry nothing to do with Thirlwells, I was wondering if your husbands Grandfather was related to John Moore who moved to Ryhope? I am doing my mother’s family history and have hit a brick wall.

  4. I think a lot of people would love to know if any records etc still exist for Thirlwells, myself included. Great picture, thank you for sharing it.

  5. The chap on the left end of the back row reminds me of Frank Hauxwell.
Frank used to work at the Malleable, so could this be a works photo ?
By the way, check out the man with the bow tie on the front row. Look at his left ankle.
He seems to have an artificial leg, this might help identify him?

  6. Sorry I can’t help with the people in the photograph but I wondered if Thirlwells have any archives too! I have some old (circa 1900) family photos taken by Thirlwells and would love to have them identified. Does anyone out there know if this is possible?
