This photograph shows William (Bill) Sunley (seated left) with 3 friends unknown to me probably in the Music & Dramatic Club at the end of Buchanan street. Bill worked in stores at ICI for at least 40 years until he died in January 1967. The family moved to 56 Buchanan Street in 1948, maybe someone remembers him.

My family history research: A [3rd?] cousin of mine Joan Ireland lived at Musical & Dramatic Club Buchanan Street in 1978. can anyone tell me a little about Joan or her father Norman Stansfield? Thankyou, Karen
Awwwwww. They look so happy and content in this pic. Love it. Maybe I might visit there one day. I used to go to a pub just near Bishopsgarth School, and they held gardening competitions, and I used to enter the gardening competions all the time. When I was a teenager. My mum always helped me prepare. She also used to take part in the gardening competitions 🙂
Hi folks from sunny California, its been a while since I commented; I’m not sure I find the new site as user friendly as the old one; anyway I think I am finally starting to figure it out. Though there appears to be less interaction with the photo’s as in the past…I think its because the participation is not easily seen it has to be found !! Thats my tuppence worth.
I remember the club on Buchanan St. though we always referrred to it as the M&D club and for years I had no idea it stood for Music and Dramatic. I always thought it was a workingmans club that brought in entertainment. Maybe someone can provide us with its origins.
Betcha Ken Rhodes can…..
its Election Day here, tomorrow starts another four years without the hype.
I remember someone from Buchanan Street alright, but her name was Ann and she lived at No. 42
