The Top House was the haunt of the workforce of Head Wrightsons Foundry which I was an employee in the late 1960s. The last landlord was a chap called Tate. So the pub was affectionately known as ‘Taties’.
Can you remember the little shop near to the Bradford Vaults? Johnnie Savage was his name. I would go to the shop for 10 cigarettes for my charge hand. He was in his good books and got his 10 Players or Capstan. Others who went in there for a packet of 10 would get 8 from the packet named plus 2 Pashas. It wouldn’t be allowed these days.
