The building of the berths at Haverton Hill. In the foreground of this photograph you can see a woman worker. Women worked at Haverton Hill shipyards due to the shortage of manpower caused by WW1.

I heard of someone who lived at Port Clarence, Haverton Hill, Stockton. This man lived in London and he met a rather dishy well spoken young woman, to impress her he described “Port Clarence” to her as a beautiful little fishing village situated on the River Tees, close to Teesmouth, the entrance way for fishing boats into the North Sea. Say no more?
My husband George Morris was in London when I met him and that’s what he told me about Haverton Hill and area!. Didn’t mention ICI and sulphur smell which burnt my throat when I visited!
