This is a photograph of my grandfather, Bob Brown, the man on the left at work in the Stockton area. On the back of the photograph it says, ‘Bob at Butt Welder’. The family came from Tilery Road area. Does anyone remember my Grandad or where this was?

Did he live at Alma St or Durham Rd?
The place looks like it could be the ‘Engineering Works’ as it appears on the local A-Z with the entrance leading off Bowron Street, Tilery and the length up against the Black Path leading to Portrack. The works have existed pre WW1 I beleive, but the end near Tilery became used as a steel stockist sometime in the 1980’s (I think).
