A photograph of Yarm High Street looking towards St Mary and St Romuald Roman Catholic Church. The building just to the right is now Yarm Library. We believe this photograph to have been taken c1960s/1970s.
There’s little difference in the same view today, except for the now demolished terrace of cottages just to the right of the lampost in the distance, on the corner of Bentley Wynd. These were lastly used as part of John Rowley’s/Derek Campbell’s tyre and exhaust business. It’s a great pity that the 2006 ‘blanket’ historic Grade II listing for Yarm High Street, wasn’t in force at that time, as the site has remained undeveloped by the owner and by now has turned into a shameful eyesore on this otherwise very pleasant High Street.
