This pair of cottages in Wolviston were Grade III Listed and built in the late 18th century. The smaller cottage was built using small hand made bricks. The Photograph dates from around the early 1960s.
You are correct that there is no longer a Grade III listing – but it is true to say that at the time the photograph was taken there was a non-statutory Grade III, this was abolished in 1970 – in this instance we have kept faith with the original description and grading.
Just around the corner on Lax Terrace was the wood yard, which is now 2 cottages. Does anyone have any pics of this building prior to conversion?
You describe these as listed Grade III. Are you sure that there is such a thing as grade III listing?
If you look here: http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/england/stockton-on-tees/wolviston
everything in Wolviston is grade II except for the Rectory which is Grade II*
