This is a photograph of the Yorkshire bank at 46 High Street taken in the early 1990s. In 1963 reconstruction began on the bank, where the ground floor was completely gutted and rebuilt. Large windows were set in an Issomie green stone marble facade on an ebony black granite plinth

I must be one of the Yorkshire Banks oldest customers/depositors. I started Robert Atkinson School, Thornaby, in 1941. Every Monday morning I was given 1/- to take along and deposit in the school (Yorkshire) bank. Upon my deposits reaching the grand total of £1.00 I was given a “proper” bank book as opposed to the paper one I started out with.
It’s good to see that the shape and upper part of the building remains much as it always was. I started work here in 1957 and, after working in Thornaby and Middlesbrough branches, left the bank in 1962 for a career in Middle Eastern banking.
