These three photographs are of 19th century cyclists and their machines, all from the Stockton Cycling Club. The photographs show scenes from the many meetings or cycling expeditions the Stockton Cycling Club had around the area. Does anyone recognise where they are?

Well, if he is holding a gun, the Policeman on the back row is on hand to arrest him!
Great spot Chris. What a great selection of hats in the middle picture, they look like they mean something with patterned caps and badges? Any ideas? What is the gentleman in the straw boater holding? at first glance it looked like a gun? surely not.
NIce to see the club bugler in this photo (lying down left of centre). One blast on the bugle was the signal for all the riders to get on their bikes.
The ‘castle-like’ structure behind the cyclists, in the uppermost photograph, is one of the ‘mock’ gatehouses on the roadside at the Kirkleatham Almshouses near Redcar. A quick check on Google-Maps, reveals that this building is around 15 miles from Stockton town-centre, no mean distance on a ‘bone shaking’ penny-farthing bicycle!
Was Stockton Cycling Club also known as Stockton Wheelers or were they two separate entities?
