An interesting pair of architectural illustrations showing what might be possible. However, many of the featured recording ‘stars’ appeared on the stage of The Globe in an era when the only way to actually ‘see’ them was restricted to the infrequent and brief appearance on the few b/w TV channels available at that time. A 10/6d ticket (53p) back then, translates to around £12.00 these days. In actual fact, the ticket prices of today are now up to 5x that amount, placing them way beyond the means of anyone but the most dedicated, or affluent, of fans. The rest of us have to be content with You-Tube, MTV or the many other alternative means available to view ‘stars’ performing, simply at a tele-visual distance. I can therefore only wish The ‘New’ Globe, the very best of luck in it’s aspirations.
Also on the Buddy Holly & the Crickets UK tour of March 1958, apart from Des O’Connor as compare, were Garry Miller, The Tanner Sisters, Ronnie Keene and Don Smith and his Orchestra. John if you look on the Buddy Holly tour date 1958 you will find that acertain Des O’Connor was one of the acts appearing on the bill.
Thanks Dave, I remember Des O’Connor at one of the shows I attended way back then but was not sure which one. I think it was quite common for up and coming comedians to fill in and introduce the various groups on the bill in those days. I seem to recall Dave Allen and the Canadian Frank Berry compering similiar shows.
Nice to see the improvement, I still remember seeing Buddy Holly there as well as many others in the 50’s. I am also fairly certain that I saw the first 3D movie there wearing coloured glasses.
I too was there when Buddy Holly played at the Globe. Specifically there to see him and his backing group The Crickets, my memory fades when trying to recall other artistes on the bill that night.
