This is a photograph of Winpenny House, Yarm in 1977. The building had been decorated to celebrate the Queens Silver Jubilee. The white building to the right was a used car saleroom, though how they got the cars in has always been a mystery to me… More or less opposite Winpenny House was the Victoria Garage so in 1977 there were two car outlets on the High Street.

The Victoria Garage used to sell Hillman Minx’s and Humber Hawks etc. Very desirable cars of the day. Me and my dad used to have a run to Yarm from Stockton, just for a look round the showroom. Many an hour spent looking at great cars we couldn’t afford.
