  1. Not sure whether it was Boots the chemists or Timothy Whites at the time but I remember in the late 50’s/ early 60’s that they had the mass produced print of the Chinese Girl, painted by Vladimir Tretchikoff hanging halfway up the staircase.
    Another big selling print – ‘Wings of Love’ by Stephen Pearson used to hang in the Garrick in Yarm Lane during the 70’s
    These much maligned artists, like the present day Jack Vettriano with his ‘Singing Butler’ were hugely popular and adorned many a wall at the time; the ‘Wings of Love’ being used in the Mike Leigh tv play, Abigail’s Party.

  2. In 1978 I took my own material in to stewarts and they made me a nice made to measure suit out of it in a couple of weeks for my upcoming wedding. Try going into a shop and doing that nowadays. I dont think so !!

    • You can say that again. For me this was the High Street at it best in fact Stockton at its best. Wonderful memories of the 1960s.
