  1. I lived there in the mid-1980s in a bedsit. I don’t remember it being particularly run down, but I guess most of that part of Stockton was so I probably didn’t notice.

  2. Hartington road has been in decline for many years, I understand it was once a very ‘des res’ area. Unrelated-does anyone remember the Smith family of 59 Tilery road, 1958-1966? Dads mam was a Pybus before marriage. They were both quite large families from Tilery and Portrack. Cheers for any replies

    • I remember Billy Pybus who was a driver for George Fordy’s building company. Socially he would make his way via Portrack Lane and Garbutt Street to the Blythome Club most evenings. Billy always wore a trilby, a very smart and dapper man whom I suspect was very fond of dancing.

  3. Were these the section of properties demolished to create an access through to the car-park and Health Centre in Lawson Street? The ‘odd’ small window, just under the eaves of the house in the centre, is interesting, as it’s a sliding-sash window, representing an alteration carried out many years previously, perhaps not long after the property was built? But to create what sort of room,
…as the window would be almost at floor level in the attic roof-space?
