  1. Just one stall further down on the left would be my G/fathers vegetable stall. Everything grown from his 32 acres of fields in Norton adjacent to St Mary’s Church. He was in business from 1910 until he was killed in a road accident on the Stockton High Street in 1964 just after his 86th birthday. His 3 sons Harold, Fred and Jack carried on this business after his sudden death.

  2. my dad used to put the stalls out and bring then in again had a wharehouse where the new shops are on the road where boyes is i remeber riding on his two weel cart dont what year he stoped doing it he also use to open the shambles i rember taken a apple or two on a saturday

    • Your dad would of known Benny Powell from Garrabaldi Street, near the Gashouse who the gaffer of the squad that handled the stalls which also used to be in John Street opposite the Turf Hotel and the old cattlemarket.
