I can remember when the two houses were converted into Tommy Rea’s place in about 74-76, they used make the coffins there. The sawdust went everywhere.
Raynard’s used store and repair big earth moving machines in the building.
The Building is still standing,(It’s now Manor paint and coatings) it was repaired, although a slightly different façade was put on it. I’m not sure if it still belonged to Reynard’s (excavations) at the time of the fire in the early 80’s, it might have been a taxi storage place by then.
I remember It became Reynards some time in the early 70’s. In the bottom picture you can see the Rear of Pumphrey’s factory in the background, and in the Top picture you can make out Percy Street garage which is now part of Stephenson Street Garage which is at the old Whitwell street side of the building.
Just to explain, the Percy Street Garage building back in the 60’s-70’s had two entrance’s one in Percy St and one in Whitwell St, I think it was owned by Tommy Rea (Funeral Directors) to store the Limo’s etc. I really should remember better seeing as I lived in Percy St.
Paul answered my questions so just thought I’d add reference to other posts on this sad looking shell.
