  1. This picture is very reminiscent of the pattern shop at HW iron foundry at Eaglescliffe.The foreman there was a great guy called Ernie Littlefair. I worked in the lab next door for Jack Robinson with another apprentice called Roy Foggin who lived in Norton. This was in 1957/8. Amazing that such a good company and large employer should disappear.

  2. I remember working here for a few weeks in the early 70’s during my commercial apprenticeship with HW
    Douggy Hauxwell used to live round the corner from me on Hillside road in Norton
    One of the thing I noticed was that you needed to have lost at least a part of a finger to be a pattern maker.
    Its a pity we dont have the industry and the skilled tradesmen anymore
