My dad (Jack) worked at Rays Brass Foundry (not sure if spelling is correct) which was behind the Odeon and the Post Office. He also worked at Browns Foundry then finally at Parkfield Foundry. As a child, the very few times I went I thought the premises very old, dangerous and primitive. But all industry in those days probably was.
