The fact that these old buildings have never been demolished in Yarm gives the place a somewhat “timeless” feel, almost. Where as Stockton has been changed so often you can’t tell at exactly what time period a scene was taken, here only the cars give away the fact the picture was taken in the ’70s!
These buildings and others opposite, situated at the south-end of the High Street, were once the 18thC private homes of Merchants and the local Gentry. Whilst maintaining an overall architectural visual charm for visitors to Yarm town-centre, true lovers of old buildings should attempt to view these buildings from the rear, where a trove of ‘quirky’ windows, doors, roofs and acres of original ‘rippled’ window glazing can still be seen.
