The Cleveland (Clevo) Flour Mill on the banks of the River Tees closed in the 1960s. It was demolished in June 1970.
I believe my Grandad was a manager [miller] at this Mill until he was sent to work in India to manage a Mill over there. William Middleditch. Later he owned two shops one in Mandale Road, Thornaby and the other in Grangetown. He lived in Langley Avenue, Thornaby.
My late mother had a friend called Eve who she’d known for years whose family owned the flour mill. If you read this eve I’m Maureen Hawke’s daughter and you and I met at your hotel here in Eaglescliffe back in the 1970’s when I used to work at the Fiesta and some of the cabaret acts stayed with you.
My father, Jack Parvin was a lorry driver for this company until the early 1960’s I think.
I remember your father. My father (Arthur Millward) was also a lorry driver until he moved to the vehicle workshop…In 1959 he was transfered to Gateshead ,I then joined the company as an apprentice mechanic.I used to see your father when he came to Gateshead to have work done on his vehicle although we worked for Ranks (RHM) we were Known as B I Transport
