The Family of Christopher Little

t13567This photograph was taken at the time of the Boer War – probably 1901. It shows Lily Little (nee Crosby) with her children Elizabeth Jane (Lizzie), Thomas, George and baby Jessie – the family were living in Haverton Hill. It was sent to her husband, Christopher, who at that time was serving with the Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa on a 12 month short term enlistment.  Tragically baby Jessie was to die before her father returned from the war.

You can read their story on the Heritage Stockton website

Thanks to Lily’s great grandson, also called Christopher Little, for sending us this photograph and for telling us the story.

  1. Chris Little…my grandfather was “Kit” Little, I have orginal postcard pics of Great grandad Chris on the website, battered now, my father gave them to me! What a story. My father was Denis Little, son of “Kit”..I have had the photographs many years and often wondered why great grandfather was in an Australian uniform. How wonderful to find out the whole story. Thank you!

    • Dave Little,
Great to meet you online and a second cousin!
If you contact me via the Site Admin, I can send more photos and a slightly fuller story.
Your great grandfather is also on this site in his Boer War uniform. Search for Soldiers of the Boer War Posted on June 13, 2012

  2. The Thomas in this photo is the well known Gashouse fish & chip shop owner Tommy Little, his shop was in Hume Street at the junction with Alma Street. His daughter married a famous piano accordion player.

    • Dear Anon,
The daughter, my aunt, Dorothy Lukins (née Little) died last year, 2013. She gave a small concert with her accordion band just a couple of months previously in Uxbridge at the age of 92.

      • Is her husband still with us? I think he was called Martin, him and his band used to be on the radio regular.
