  1. My mam worked in Kings fish shop (near bus stop) late 50s early 60s. I remember Telfords clothes shop on one corner, run by father and son. And, a little later Bellsports, which became Willie Madrens, I think! Having no freezer the fish was kept in ice crates in the back yard, this created a permanent mist to walk through on the way to the outside netty! By the time I was 5 we had moved to the bright new vision of the future……HARDWICK!!!!!!!!!…….

  2. Just remembered, Bill Beattie had a bike shop along here. My first new bike came from there, just in time for me to do the cycling proficiency test at the rear of the old police station.

  3. I used to pass these shops every morning when I worked at Abatal ( I think that’s how it was spelled ) on Maritime Road. Pattons did the most tasty meat pies that I had ever eaten, and the little paper shop first introduced me to the delights of Seabrooks crisps, instead of the normal Smiths or Tudor. In those days, it was a full packet of crisps, not like the measly 4 or 5 you get in todays offerings.

  4. Odd to see this area with so much life in it- or at least shops that are actually open. When you think about how dead this stretch of street is, it’s an easy symbol of what has happened to Stockton.

Then again maybe I’m just being negative…
