Sadly the RNA club closed up for business sometime ago, being a former member I was sorry to see it’s demise. Like many other social clubs it was difficult to recruit new members, younger people prefer other social outlets than the older generation. The building is now used as a successful drama academy, so definitely a positive outcome rather than being left to fall into dereliction.
Any one remember a chap called Joe Burnell who drank in this club? I used to work with him at John Downings iron foundry, Joe fed the furnace, I was a young teenager then but remember Joe as a lovely man.
Picked up my dad George Parker many a night after he was finished playing the drums for the “turns”. Was certainly a popular place, always packed on the weekends. Is it still open?
Yes it is still open, unfortunately like many such clubs struggling to survive. Younger people have not replaced the older generation who have passed on. Quite sad because it is a nice friendly little club of which I am a member. Because of it’s location I suspect many local residents don’t know of it’s existence.

My grandfather Eddie Rollinson was a member in the 1950’s/1960’s – anyone remember him?
