I took these two photographs of the refurbished War Memorial and it’s newly relaid surroundings which all looked very nice in the mid-morning sunshine on Yarm High Street this morning.

To accompany the Yarm photographs I called in at Egglescliffe and photographed their War Memorial too which also looked equally resplendent in the sunshine.

  1. Great photographs David.

Hopefully, Stockton B.C. will be replacing the railings around the Yarm War Memorial which were removed under the much criticised ‘High St Improvements’ scheme. The site lays close to most of the late-nite bars/ clubs on the High St and I’d hate to think just what measure of dis-respect, an inebriated youth could inflict upon the Memorial in the early hours. Just last week, I found 2 coffee-cartons and a soft-drink can, left on the new plinth and that was at only 9:00pm!

    • I actually went down to see the war memorial thinking that there was a remembrance service taking place but it had been the previous day ! The town hall and it’s new surroundings looked so good in the sunshine that it was too good of an opportunity to miss .
I went to see the ‘Tommy’ figure cum art work at Seaham recently and both he and their war memorial are both without railings and seemingly well respected so far . Let’s see how the Yarm one fairs first before thinking of putting the railings back up ?
I forgot to mention the third war memorial in the area , the one in Victoria Road , Eaglescliffe , which I think is in the Preston Parish ? That too looked equally smart and a photo will follow shortly to redress the balance !
