Bowls Team c1960s

t13725I wonder if anybody remembers this bowls team… I think they are in Littleboy Park, Thornaby and the photograph would have be taken during the 1960’s. My father’s name was John Vincent, although he was often called Jack, he is first left on the second row. He also represented Yorkshire County.

  1. does anyone know who built the bowling green we are after a copy of the plans from 1931 or the ,land drainage plans

  2. I am Alec Marsden’s grandson.
I have many happy memories at Littleboy Park and stories of him beating David Bryant….
    Great picture…

    • Andrew, my father and your grandfather were very good friends in those days, I have pictures of them both together. One of Alec’s daughters lives very close to me and I see her regular she is Norma . I gave Norma some photo’s so maybe she can help. John Vincent

  3. My grandfather was Alec Marsden, third left in the bottom row.
Yes I remember him taking me to Littleboy Park regularly.!!

    • Sorry G Thompson, but it definitely is NOT the late thirty’s early forties . I would be about 20 when that was taken and I occasionally played bowls with my father !!

    • Val. Some names I remember. On the back row I can’t name them. Next to my father is Charlie Marsden, then Jim McCartney, ? ? ?, Cyril Mason, ? Bob Robertson. Front row; ? ? Alec Marsden, Norman Russell, Harry Wright, ? Fred Oliver. Incidentally, my father, along with Alec Marsden, Norman Russell and Bob Robertson regularly won many trophy’s both locally and nationally.

      • The Marsden next to your father worked in Head Wrightsons Foundry, Tommy Marsden worked in Head Wrightsons Machine Shop, Thornaby, his son Neil who was a good cricketer played for Thornaby.

  4. My uncle Fred Hodgson played bowls for Littleboy Park around this time if anybody can point him out

    • Fred Hodgson is not on this photo, he played bowls for Head Wrightsons at Teesdale Park, he also worked a milling machine in the light machine shop at Head Wrightsons, Thornaby.

      • I fondly remember working on the crossword at lunchtime with Fred Hodgson when I was an apprentice in the light machine shop. That would have been in the late 1960’s.

  5. john looks like village park pavilion steps to the right onto the roof access to air raid siren .unless littleboy park had a similar construction .county games and international bowls also played at the village park thorntree road that pavilion demolished some years now.
