  1. We lived at number 76, Ronald (Greg) Allinson was my stepdad, 2 doors away on the night of the fire. Mr and Mrs brown lived immediately next door at 74. I was aged 15 at the time. Vividly remember a man screaming from outside our houses telling us to get out, could have been your dad. We where evacuated to the Alma Centre just behind the hotel. Look North or some news crew came and interviewed us all, we where on the tele next day! We were not allowed back in our house for a few weeks until the hotel structure was made safe.

  2. Hi, I think my dad may have helped save people in this fire. I’ve searched for years on the internet and to find it was this the fire somewhere near Argos? My father worked for Sparks Bakery at the time. I would love to find some information for him.

    • Your father may have been with another employee from Sparks Bakery, as I was led to believe that Derek Lawson had popped to the paper shop to get the morning papers for the night shift
