  1. I used to play in there as a kid when we lived in Station Road before we moved to Oakwell Road. consider there was so much industry over the tracks I clearly remember the becks and streams at the bottom of the bank and they were thriving wildlife sanctuaries, frogs, two types of newts, minnow, stickleback, voles, harvest mice etc. An idylic childhood in Norton .

  2. Hi John
Stumbled on this article. I knew Eric well – he was such a kind and generous man. I gather Angela has passed but how is Judy nowadays? He even let me drive the Rolls once when my old Triumph, Gloria, was blocked in (to buy him some cigs!!). Went to Gt Broughton a couple of times with Judy.

  3. Thanks John I was searching family history and came up with your great photo of Grandpa, recognised him straight away.
S Hyatt and Bob, Grandpa loved kids would of been happy to have the orchard robbed.

      • I remember the Wilson’s house at the top of Oakwell Road which had a very large orchard and which was frequently “robbed of it’s fruit “, the pear’s especially lovely by many of the children from the road.

        • S Hyatt – going back many years I seem to remember one of your aunties or uncles living in the 1st on the right of the newer houses in Mowbray Road. As an errand boy for my uncle Jim Walker who had the Curry’s butcher shop in Norton High Street I delivered to this house.
