This photograph shows The Simporter at Reach Wharfe in Billingham. As you can see, it is a beautiful Autumn morning and the River Tees is totally calm. Taken October 2007.
The simporter was used to discharge ships and transport the product via converer belts to the silo it was then sent to different parts of the fertilzer production area,
Unfortunately it did not work that often as quite a lot of the products rotted the steel work in the inner workings of the machine on a good day I believe it could discharge at a round 200 tons per hour or more?
The simporter was sited at Bamlets wharfe which was owned and run by ICI from the Newport fertilzer production area
