Nice to see the Stockton and Teesside Park old race programmes. I have more than 30 in my collection along with many members metal badges from the racecourse. If anyone else collects memorabilia and want to get in touch with me I would be happy to hear from them with regard to any possible swaps etc
Hi Craig, I am going to all the race courses and collecting a ticket or badge from each one I go to, to frame when I am finished. I have five left to go. I went to Stockton races before it closed but I have no badge or ticket to say so. So is there some way I could get a badge from you. What type of things do you collect or a payment. Thanks Shaun, Billingham.
When I first started going to Stockton Races in the 1960s the top jockeys were people like Jimmy Etherington, Lionel Brown, Brian Lee, Brian Connorton and of course Johny Seagrave. There always seemed to be a decent crowd at the time.
It would be interesting to see the racecards of those days to bring to mind the great northern trainers of old… The Stephensons, the Peacocks, the Vaseys, Cpt.Elsey, Sam Hall and others and great jockeys such as Willie Nevett and Joe Sime.
I agree
Been trying to find out more about owner JG Thomson, trainer Dobson Peacock and jockey Willie Nevett. Won Northumberland Plate in 1928, Primrose League.
Hi John I know it’s quite a while since you posted this. I have just come across it. Just like to tell you I live in the house where Willie Nevett was born. Also I went to the same school he went to, not at the same time. The address is The Cottage Lower Burgh Hall. or (Farm) Chorley Lancashire.
The School was St George’s now knocked down. He returned to the school to present a prize.I have seen a picture of the occasion that was in the local paper. My father met him at Thirsk when the November Handicap was held there in 1989.
All the best Ken.
