My Grandparents lived in Mill Lane, and I well remember walking down that lane, many, many times as I was growing up. We often walked all the way to Billingham bottoms, where there was a play area for children.
This was the playground for us boys and girls who lived around Norton Green and an extension to Mill Lane that I lived on. It still looks much the same as it did then apart from the housing on the left. The big field at the top where we picked potato’s during the war is much the same too and the memory of as we got older walking down the lane with our holding hands sweethearts after Church on warm Sunday nights. “Oh the innocence of youth” well it was in our time.
