On going through the main entrance I recall that immediately on the right was the reading room containing all of the days newspapers and that the children’s library was immediately on the left.

I went work in the library straight from school learning how to use a telephone and the Dewey classification system. I remember Joyce Chesney and her spray that she used to use on the newspaper readers. Fred Leighton was the chief librarian. I later went to work in the new building.

My wife before marriage was a librarian there and working in the Reference Room and Reading Room. This was in the early 60’s.
