Too early for me I was at St Josephs from 75-1980. Mrs booth, Mrs cannon, were teachers there farther o Gorman the priest best years of my life anybody remember other teachers?
I was a pupil from 1959-1966. Teachers Miss Wilkinson (head) Miss Ward, Miss Beaumont, Miss Howlie, Mrs Booth! Miss Armstrong, Miss Henderson, Mr Kelly. Priests Fr Thornton
Miss Wilkinson head teacher middle photo left as you look at it. If you came from Norton Green, Junction Road or private housing you got a better education. If you came from a council house your were a treated differently.
I attended the school from 1958-1966
Margaret Brewster, Kathleen Franklin, Sheila McGowan, Christine Harrington, Julie Edwards, David McGoven, Christine Dwyer, Peter Garvey, Terry Meehan, Anne Hayes, Patricia Blakemore and me Susan Tatterton were all in the same class.
Became a teacher. Luckily my secondary education was superb and encouraged and maximised my potential. Miss Wilkinson would not allow me to sing, told me I was a growler and as such was never allowed to participate in singing productions.
I became a music teacher, grade 8 in singing, sang in a madrigal group and Teesside Philharmonic Choir, just to give you and idea of how my potential was destroyed by primary. Don’t get me wrong, it made me stronger and better but it taught me injustice and bigotry first hand and made me intolerant of both.
My sister Barbara Hunton is the 5th girl from the right on the third photo. And my brother Thomas Hunton is the first boy on the left in the first row on top photo.
On the last photograph the two boys in the front are the brothers Gilbert and David Allinson. On the top row Philip (Pedro) Petlar is the boy wearing the nhs spectacles. The three of them were in my class at St Bede’s.
To the right of Philip Petlar it looks like Charlie Blakemore who was also in the same class as I was at St Bede’s.
3rd photo down:
This is just from what I think I can remember, if anyone remembers the missing ones or any corrections to mine, can you please post.
From middle row 5th along:
Terry O’conner; Pat Nicholson; Pat Martin; Anne Kitchen; (? ) Pat Thornton;
(?) Malcolm Woods; Sidney Pilkelan; ? Howell. Queried the rest.
Bottom row: (?) Susan Wheelan; Kathleen Taylor; Kathleen Simpson; Pauline Matthie; (?) Anne Johnson; Barbara Harris; (?) Kathleen Simpson; (?) Kathleen Duncan; Carol Jordan.
I think the two sitting at the front are the Alinson twins.
Two Kathleen Taylor’s, not sure which one. One might be Kathleen Howell.
It is definitely Malcolm Woods. I would know him anywhere. I’m his youngest sister, although this was taken before I was born, which wasn’t until 1958.
Hi
I think in the first photo second from the right is my mate Tony Morgan from Greta Rd, now a painter & decorator living on the Glebe. Back row next to the teacher could be Paul or Trevor Wynn.
3rd photo 5th from the left again could be Paul or Trevor Wynn
Cheers
Hi Norman, the boy you refer to is a cousin of mine on my dad’s side, Tony Morgan.I remember his sister Anne who was a lovely girl, but I cannot remember the older brother, his name eludes me. Auntie Rene always made you welcome, please pass on my best wishes, I know my brother sometimes sees Tony.
Tony Morgan worked in the same factory as me at F Hills, whilst I was joinering he was a contract and later employed by them as a Painter. Nice bloke, see him at times around Norton and also in the Malleable Club.

I remember all of them, and loved that school. I wonder what it’s like now.
