  1. I was born in Langley Street in 1954 my mam and dad were Mary nee Mannion and Norman Fowler we lived in number 15.

    • Hi Jean, you will be related to a great mate of mine Jimmy Mannion, I could never be in Jimmy’s company with out losing the use of my legs! He would have me rolling on the floor with laughter, a lovely lad, I was very sad to hear of his passing some years ago. Are you also related to Domanic Fowler, he works for the council, another lovely lad, he knows me as “Derek the walker” up here in Billingham.
      All the best. Derek

  2. Is Langley Street the same as Longley Street, just my dad lived at number 3 Longley Street in 1945 with his parents, Mr & Mrs Trainer, if they are different places can someone let me know where each are please as I’m not from the area.

    • Langley Street was between Alison Street & Alma Street it was off Hume Street with Parkin Street at the other end. It was never called Longley Street.

    • Hi Liz, Longley Street was between Bridge Road and the the Holy Trinity grounds, it ran south from Wood St., passing Villiers St., intersected with Parliament St., Bickersteth St. and finished at Chalk St.. Due to all the reconfiguration of the roads over the years it’s hard to pin down where it would of be today. It looks like No.3 would now be on the Holy Trinity side of the A1035 (or under it), just north of the car park off Parkfield Road.

  3. My Nanna Elsie Peacock was born in Langley on 4th April 1939 at 4 Langley Street, co-incidentally enough the same house used to belong to her distant Uncle Samuel Fenny. In fact he owned a lot of property within that area including Fenny Street.

    • Was this Sammy Fenny, the owner/ founder and candle-stick maker behind the Fenny Sweeping Brush Makers Company Skinner Street, Stockton, the long street opposite the Maison De Dance? Any news on Fenny Brush makers would be interesting to hear about?

  4. When did Langley Street get demolished? I was interested to visit the street on one of my trips to England but it was not there. My interest stems from no 13 Langley Street being our house in 1935 when I was born. I do not remember it as we left in 1937 to move to Hawthorne Road, Primrose Hill estate one of the modern at the time new hosing estates being developed in Stockton.

Primrose Hill was one of he best kept estates so my mother was very happy there, as we had a new Bathroom and lovely garden with tall trees at the back and three bedrooms for the four children of the house. We were within walking distance of lovely countryside up to the Mile house and beyond, which a was a boon for us kids as we went on long walks as far as Thorpe Thewles, Wynyard and many other lovely Villages, having great adventures in all the local woods etc. Sports fields were close by and the Bus service ran close to the house. A big change from living in a small terraced house in the centre of Stockton.. The Primary School, Newtown was close by as was the Secondary School Newham Grange. Over the years the local football team became a team of Champions winning many trophies both local and County Standard. Happy memories..

    • Linda Crow Henderson may be able to help you, she was an Airton Street resident in her younger days. What was your Nana’s name?

      • Thank-you for your reply, I have only just found it? My Nana was called Margaret Mary Loughran as her married name, Moore as her maiden name.

My Aunt Lily used to live across the road.

        How will I find Linda?

    • Your Nana lived next door. A lovely lovely lady. We (Crow family ) lived in the adjoining house. Your Nana , Mrs Loughran, was a very good neighbour and a very quiet, dignified person.

Len Nicholson alerted me to your enquiry. Your aunt lived in No 21. Lily and Paddy Delaney.
