Hello Neal, Further to John Wetherell’s comments (my brother,) Dad, holding the trophy, was one of the founder members of the Stockton & Thornaby RAF Association and I believe that he was Chairman of the Association in its early days. I did not know that he played darts!
Hello Neal, The man in the centre holding the cup is my late father William Clifford Wetherell. It was good to see a photo of him. He was a “tail end Charlie” in Wellington Bombers during the war and later was an industrial model maker at ICI Billingham before he retired in 1971. He sadly passed away in 1978.
Neal, did your Uncle Leonard go to Richard Hind in 1952/57? He looks like one of my school mates.
Jeff, Len was 90 when he died this year so no he didn’t go to school at that time.
Hello Neal how are you? I didn’t know your dad Norman had a brother, surprising after all these years and that’s the first time I have known that. I can however see the resemblance, your uncle looks remarkably like your Dad, but I suppose that’s hardly surprising. Incidentally, where were you at the Barnard street tea party reunion at Preston Museum? Your Mother said you were suppose to go but you did not show up !!!
I couldnt make it Fred, had some work commitments. My Uncle Len passed away on the 18th May age 90. Lived all his life as a bachelor, quiet and unassuming but he lived a full life.
Neal I was very sorry to hear of the passing of your uncle Len Toulson, Len was a friend of Mine of fifty years standing and he sent me a Christmas Card every year.. Len loved his cricket but was not in the same class as brother Norman, although I do remember him partnering me in the Final of the Ashmore’s Cricket Final, where a certain Fast Bowler from Saltburn CC was hitting Len in all parts of his anatomy, but Len never flinched. bruised and battered he stayed at the crease until we had won the match. Len was black and blue after that encounter, but no complaints. He was a lovely man even if he was a Sunderland supporter, and will be missed by his many friends at Stockron CC and Stockton High Street where he would walk every Market Day greeting pals and acquaintances on his walk through the stalls..

When we emptied his house we found lots of old Stockton Town FC programmes which I have given to the Stockton Archive. We also found a load of Stockton CC members books which I have handed over to the club.
He didn’t do so bad living to 90 and still independent, when we phoned the doctors to tell them they said he had not had an appointment for over 2 yrs!! Bred them tough in those days unless it was all that honey and bee pollen he used to eat?
