Ice Sculpting on Stockton High Street, December 2015

Although we have moved into a new year it seems as though we cannot leave the cold winter weather behind us. These photographs are a reminder of the ice sculptures which were on display in the High Street as part of ‘Stockton Sparkles’.

  1. Hi David, thanks for posting these as I missed them, though I did see the large polar bear sculpture that was there on the Sunday.

    • The ice sculptures which were on display in the High Street over the weekend of the 5-6 December were part of the councils ‘Stockton Sparkles’ campaign for which they should be congratulated. In these times of severe austerity and council cuts backs it was nice to see Stockton buck the trend and make a go of the pre-Christmas ‘sparkles’ with the log-cabin Christmas market, reindeer, bear, and the blue walk-through bauble trying to entice people into the high street and add a bit of Christmas magic at the same time.

The ice carvers were very good if a little under-whelmed as the Saturday market had been cancelled due to the forecasted high winds which , you’ve guessed it , never materialised!
