The house at the rear of the photograph on the right hand side is the Mount built in 1774. The house was owned by my gran Betty Wright from 1938 to 1961. I was born in the house in 1951. In recent years the old place has been revamped and renamed.

The large Georgian building on the left is still a working farm. At one time there were eight working farms in the village. Wolviston was one of those unique villages with the farms in the centre and the fields on the outside. The roads were daily covered in cow clap as the cows were brought in for milking. You can see the corn stacks in the stackyard to the right of the farmhouse in Coal Lane, the road to Durham and the Durham coalfields. The photo is taken from the front of the village school, in a very different time.
