Not sure about exact location or date but how many historic quays like this have been restored and brought back to add a sense of place. Such a loss. Presumably the longboats were ferrymen taking men and women across for work on the opposite bank. Great photo

A late 1800’s view of what remained of Cleveland Row, after the right-hand half was demolished. You can see the steps up to Smithfield. The Ship Launch Inn is just out of shot on the left.
On the river there is a ferry boat, at the steps, with a few passengers aboard.
The buildings on the right survived and later became the Remploy building.
