We’ve had some sad news sent to us from David Gibson about one of our regular contributors, Frank Mee.
“My relative, and not infrequent contributor to Picture Stockton, Frank Mee (or Phil as he was known to the family) has passed away at the age of 95.
Regular readers will know that he was both knowledgeable and witty which made his posts entertaining and enlightening. His Knowledge of the ICI at Billingham where he worked for many years was second to none. I know he will be missed on this site and I am am sure you will agree with me that we are all wiser because of his contributions” – David Gibson.
He will be sadly missed. RIP Frank.

Always enjoyed reading Franks contributions, he will be missed. RIP sir.
Just advising my Dad, Colin Booth has recently passed away also. He was aged 89.
Kind regards Christine Booth – Daughter
Hello Christine.
I remember Colin and Sheila when my Mam & Dad used to visit Norman & Veras, they took turns to also visit our house to play cards and have a social evenning before TV’s were common place, they also attended many dances together. They had a decorators shop in Bishop Auckland.
Sad news Christine I new Colin for nearly 80 years meeting him first at my last and only year at Newtown Junior school and later at Newham Grange Secondary School . Colin like many others including myself from a Secondary Modern School Education, which was a very poor standard, studied at the Stockton Technical College and gained his qualIfications Which enabled him to become a Technical School Teacher In Sydney Australia I met up with him and his lovely wife for Lunch in Manly. Colin was a keen member of the Stockton Wheelers Cycling Club before Emigrating to Australia where I am sure He will be remembered if any of the older members who are still with us. In later years Colin took up Tennis and played Tennis until he became ill Colin always took a great interest in the Stockton and Teesside area, and was a regular contributor to this site. RIP Colin Booth.
Sad news RIP Frank. I always found his comments about Richard Hind and Norton really interesting..
I didn’t know him, but his is a name I recall seeing on this site quite often over the years, sad news indeed, but 95, wow, time to rest now.
There are a few contributors whose comments I have always looked out for when visiting picture Stockton, Mr Mee’s was top of that list. His knowledge of the local area’ its industries and stories of a much gentler way of life years ago regardless of the hardships will be sadly missed.
R.I.P. FRANK
Mr. Mee was a good friend to my father, Ken Sheraton, in their childhood, after my dad moved to Cottersloe Road in Norton from Imperial Avenue in Billingham.
Frank was always helpful and friendly whenever I asked him questions about my dad and always painted a detailed mental picture together with amusing anecdotes to satisfy my curiosity. I’ve always been grateful to Mr. Mee for his kindness and am saddened to hear of his passing. RIP
So very sorry to hear this sad news. Frank’s contributions to PS, and elsewhere, always amazed me with the amount of detail he could remember.
It certainly sounded like he had a full life, full of adventure far and wide, as well as closer to home. Legend! My sympathies to his family and friends.
May God rest him. John Quin, Limerick, Ireland.
I guessed that Frank could not be in a good state of health, since it is quite a time since we saw his last contribution.
Frank did more than anyone to make Picture Stockton a going concern. He had worked at a number of jobs around Stockton as well as served in the army. His now vanished old school, Richard Hind would have been proud of him.
So sad to hear of Frank’s passing, he had an amazing memory & passed on many stories of his life with his wife & large family.
I was at the very spot I think yesterday for my Birthday lunch. Parked in the disabled car park a few yards from the ice cream bar and restaurant upstairs, luckily it had a lift. Strangely enough I also worked at Billingham ICI plastics division before it closed down I was moved to Wilton – secretarial.
Very sad news. May he RIP 🙏
