Nurses at Stockton & Thornaby Hospital

An undated photo of nurses from Stockton & Thornaby Hospital.

My mum, Catherine Macdonald Maclean worked as a nurse from approximately 1943 at Stockton & Thornaby Hospital. She is pictured on the right at the top of the stairs and had written names of some of the nurses on the photo. She absolutely loved her nursing time at the hospital.

  1. Love this pic. I visited this place with breaks and bad scrapes etc. When I was a young child I loved climbing; I can’t stand heights now.

  2. Your mum may have treated me,…In late 40s I was youngster living in Arlington St. and visited the A&E dept.on several occasions for stitches to a few cuts I sustained whilst out and about playing in the area…and I still have the scars!…enjoyable times..

  3. Remember it well, my mum told me to get down off that stool! You will fall and break your arm…. So I fell off and broke my arm and that was my first visit there around 1965 I think.
