Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) from Stranton Fir

A view of an R.I.V (Rapid Intervention Vehicle) based at Stranton Fire Station, Hartlepool. This appliance was purchased to bridge a gap between a conventional appliance and an emergency tender, particularly in the field of crashed vehicle incidents. c1970

  1. This picture of a 1978 Range Rover/Carmichael Rapid Intervention Vehicle (THN949S) comes from a set of postcards issued by Cleveland County Fire Brigade, during the 1970/80s. there were 33 in the set, and they showed a variety of the Brigades appliances and stations, each with a fire safety message on the back.they are an extremely interesting set, but very hard to find now. Cleveland operated three Emergency Tenders, this one at Stranton in Hartlepool, another at Stockton (Norton), and a third, originally at Middlesbrough, but from 1985, Coulby Newham. This appliance was sold to a Brigade in Ireland sometime around 1990.
