My Great Grandfather John Heaviside Hurst was born here
My great grandfather had horses stabled at the back of the Black Lion Hotel. He was Thomas Heslop. He was a cab proprietor and had a thriving business in the high street. Thomas died in 1906.
Most of these types of buildings at the rear of the High St in this area were stables from when every thing and people used horses. I actually used the sables behind 69 High Street for storage in the 1940/50s. The ones I used had all ceramic tiled walls.
